For educators
Teaching with AI. And teaching well in a world that has it.
Two different jobs are landing at once: using AI in your own professional work, and deciding what learning, assessment and learner AI use should look like now.
The situation
The tools arrived before the line was clear.
You can use AI to plan, draft, research, adapt resources or organise work. Your learners can use the same technology to explain, draft, practise, rewrite and sometimes bypass the very thinking a task was meant to develop.
That leaves educators with a harder question than “Which tool should I use?”: what should AI do, what should the learner do, and what evidence will still show real learning?
Two strands of educator capability
Your work
Using AI in your professional work
Planning, research, resource development, communication, feedback drafting, administration and workflow — with verification, privacy and human judgement built in.
Learning
Teaching in a world with AI
Learning design, learner AI use, cognitive ownership, assessment conditions, evidence of learning and feedback that remains professionally accountable.
The 5D Educator Reflection Framework
1
DECIDE
Should AI be involved? Purpose, responsibility, privacy, access and appropriate non-use.
2
DIRECT
Can I work with AI effectively and critically? Understanding, direction, iteration, verification and tool choice.
3
DESIGN
Is AI contributing to learning? Outcomes, alignment, scaffolding and learner thinking.
4
DEMONSTRATE
Can learners still show what they know and can do? Assessment, evidence, feedback and learner judgement.
5
DEVELOP
Is the practice worthwhile and getting better? Workflow, value, evaluation and professional learning.
Free reflection
See your current pattern before choosing what to learn next.
The AI-Era Educator Profile is a 25-statement developmental reflection across the five Ds. It gives you a profile, a simple 5D map, strengths already visible and one useful capability to strengthen next.
No percentage. No pass mark. No ranking against other educators.
Then build the capability you actually need
Responsible AI
If DECIDE is your edge
Build clearer AI boundaries: purpose, privacy, human responsibility and appropriate non-use.
Practical AI
If DIRECT is your edge
Strengthen briefing, iteration, verification and tool choice for real educator tasks.
Learning design
If DESIGN is your edge
Use AI around learning outcomes without giving away the learner’s thinking.
Assessment
If DEMONSTRATE is your edge
Rethink assessment, feedback and what counts as trustworthy evidence of learning.
Workflow
If DEVELOP is your edge
Turn one-off AI use into repeatable, worthwhile professional practice.
Choose how you want to learn
Self-paced
A guide
Short, specific and self-paced. Read it in your own time and apply it to a real teaching problem.
Half / full day
A workshop
Hands-on professional learning using real educator tasks, examples and practice.
Programme
A deeper programme
Develop across all five Ds with application, follow-through and a later reflection on what changed.
School
Across your school
Use aggregate staff patterns to target professional learning without exposing individual results.
Questions educators ask
Will this tell me to use more AI?
No. Strong practice can include deciding not to use AI. The question is whether the use is purposeful, defensible and worthwhile.
I am not technical. Is this for me?
Yes. The work is about professional judgement, learning and practical use — not programming or becoming an AI specialist.
What about assessment?
AI makes some familiar products weaker evidence of what a learner can independently do. We focus on strengthening the evidence, not guessing who used a tool.
Can this count as professional learning?
It can support a professional learning conversation or record, but educators should follow their own institution’s requirements for formal recognition.
Credibility
The 5D framework is independently developed and informed by / cross-referenced to established educator AI capability thinking, including UNESCO’s AI Competency Framework for Teachers. Leader in U is not affiliated with or endorsed by UNESCO.
